Student Voice & Leadership provides two opportunities for DPS educators to earn professional development credits (PDU)

Both SVL PDU’s opportunities provide space for teacher learning and reflection on ethnic studies, cultural bias, critical race theory, and social justice analysis as it applies to their role as educators and change-makers within their school and classroom settings.

Student Board of Education (SBOE) Coach Training & Support

SBOE Coaches are trained to use the CCI Action Civics Cycle to support SBOE teams at their individual schools.

Throughout the school-year coaches gather in-person twice per month for PDU sessions, using the CCI Action Civics Cycle and associated Critical Civic Inquiry Curriculum as a guide. This PDU gives coaches the tools and strategies necessary to coach their teams through the action civics cycle throughout the year. Furthermore, the learning community provides space for coach learning and reflection on ethnic studies, cultural bias, critical race theory, and social justice analysis as it applies to their role as educators and change makers within their school settings.

Critical Civic Inquiry Across Content Areas (For Classroom Teachers)

This PDU, in the pilot stage, expands access of the CCI Action Civics Cycle and associated CCI Curriculum to DPS teachers across core content areas (Social Studies, ELA, and Science), giving opportunity to test infusing CCI practices into their classrooms while connecting to their core content areas.

This PDU gives teachers the tools and strategies necessary to integrate critical civic inquiry practices into their academic content instruction, and reflect on their implementation as individuals and as cohort member. Because teachers represent different content areas, with distinct texts and standards, we support teachers in adapting CCI curriculum tools to their content areas and integrate critical civic inquiry practices into their academic content instruction.
